NOTE: I'm discontinuing this site in mid-June. Come visit me at my other site: www.cluttercoachblog.com. Plenty of free time management information and more! Pick up my free ecourse on getting organized. I'm creating one about time management that will be available soon.
There are two big reasons to get better at time management:
1. You can't get more of it, so you need to optimize what you've got. You can certainly stretch it and use it more effectively, but you can't literally increase it or save it up for later.
2. Others will manage your time for you if you don't. By others I mean your boss, your colleagues, your family, your friends, your email, your phone, the Internet, volunteering, TV, shopping, etc. Pretty much anything that has a claim on your time can be a time waster. If you give an inch, they'll take a mile.
What's the best time management system?
The one that you will actually use everyday! What works for you might not work for someone else. I'm always adding new resources and articles to this website so I can offer multiple alternative techniques and help as many people as possible.
I don't have a particular program or system that I recommend, because everyone's needs are different. You might want to reduce stress, avoid burnout, boost productivity or banish procrastination. Try various things until you find a technique that best fits the way your life is right now.
Do you need a time management coach?
Learning something new and mastering it are different things. You can read all the books you want about a topic, but until you start doing it yourself, practicing, reviewing, tweaking, trying again and again, you haven't really learned.
Coaching will keep you on track, help you troubleshoot, motivate and inspire you to mastery. Managing your time well is a habit to develop, a practice to master, and it doesn't happen overnight. In fact, since the only thing constant in life is change, you'll probably change your goals and methods for how you spend your time more than once in your life.
One-on-one coaching is great, but it may not be right for you at this time. I've designed this site to provide some of the motivation and stick-to-it-iveness of coaching, via my blog posts and real-life client stories, as well as the how-to information.
